Waste is an acute, rapidly growing global problem, but at the same time, if correctly refined, it could satisfy several needs of the society through products such as fertilisers, heat, power and vehicle fuels.

Hence, the selected focus area of Waste Refinery is optimum conversion of waste material into high-quality products important for a sustainable society.

Waste Refinery is a Swedish Excellence Centre which is coordinated by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden. The centre performs theoretical and practical research, in close collaboration with representatives from the industry, research organisations and the society.
